Charlene Martin was born September 3, 1945 to Sola King and Olevia (Moore) Thomas in Louisville, Mississippi. As a young child, the family moved to Davenport, Iowa. Charlene graduated from Central High School and completed her higher education degree at Illinois Central Community College in Peoria, Illinois, where she resided for thirty plus years, prior to returning back to the Quad Cities.
She united in Holy Matrimony to Elbert Lee Martin in the early 90’s.
Charlene was employed by the Peoria Community School District, where she worked in the Grand Parents program, working with small children. She also worked at Peoria Methodist Hospital as an X-ray transporter until she retired, due to medical issues.
Charlene loved taking care of her grandchildren and activities at her church, Rising Sun Christian Community Church where she served on the Usher Board. In addition, she loved being with her family, cooking, Bingo, and traveling with her special friend Bertha Burch.
Those left to cherish her memory include her 5 children; Jimmy Burrage Jr, Davenport, IA, Lorie (Percy) Henderson, Waterloo, IA, Michael Burrage Sr., Davenport, IA, Shawn Burrage, Dewitt, IA, and Rico Easley, Kenosha, WI., 40 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 9 step-children; sisters Jearlene (Arthur) Hayes and Sallie King, both of Davenport, IA. a host of nieces, nephews and special nieces Willie Ann Riley, Shalonda King and Lucanna King; and a special step daughter Lillie Phillips.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Pearlie Cooper, Patricia Ann Thomas, brothers Hayward King, Frank King, Roy King, Fred Thomas, Leroy Thomas and a granddaughter Alexis Burrage.
