Lena Bell (Mother Stan) Nettles of Rock Island, IL passed away on March 10th at Heartland Health Care Center. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. with funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday, March 22nd at Progressive Baptist Church, Davenport, IA.
Lena was born February 9, 1938 in Prairie Point, MS to Jack and Mattie Dent. She was educated in the Meridian, MS school system. Lena was baptized at an early age at the Thirty First Avenue Baptist Church, Meridian, MS under the guidance of Rev. William Weatherspoon. Lena moved to Rock Island, IL. She married Bobby (Stan Stanley) Nettles on July 11, 1966. At his passing, they were united just shy of forty years. Lena was a member of the Free and Acceptance Church of God in Christ under Rev. Johnny McKinnon. She then joined Progressive Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Stanley Moore.
Lena was a homemaker who loved cooking meals for her family and friends, complimented by her special tea. She was also a caregiver. Lena enjoyed listening to Gospel music and gardening. She loved her many pets, Pepper, Boom Boom, Sheba, Sunshine, Countess, and Sadie.
Lena leaves to cherish her memory brothers, William (Mary Ann) Perry, Meridian, MS and Willie Stewart, Rock Island; sister, Rosie (Melvin) Woods; cousins Castellar Ellis, Rock Island and Mattie (Julius) Jordan, Gulfport, MS; nieces, Theresa (Thomas) Gathright, Columbus, GA, Renata Stewart, Sacramento, CA, Denisa (Kevin) McReynolds, O’Fallon, IL, and Linda Rush and Leslie Harice, both from Los Angeles, CA; nephews, William Perry, Jr., James Durrell Stewart, and James Guy from Meridian, MS, and LaBradford (Miranda) Perry, Tampa, FL. Her longtime caregiver, Christine Zantow. Special friends, Tonya Terrell, Rock Island and Rosalyn Malone, Davenport and a host of great nieces, great nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Rena Harice.
