Curtis Eugene Shivers

Curtis Eugene Shivers was born on July 14, 1950, at Moline Public Hospital to Charlie B. Shivers and Geneva McKinney (Shivers) Whitley. He spent his early childhood in East Moline, IL. He later moved to Rock Island, IL, and graduated from Rock Island High School in 1968.

Curtis was a dedicated employee at 3M Company, he completed a four-year apprenticeship program and was certified by the Department of Labor (DOL) as a mechanic. After 40 years of service, he retired in 2012. Before working at 3M, he worked as a cameraman at WOC TV and occasionally appeared on the Captain Ernie Show. 

He married the love of his life Debbie Johnson-Shivers on October 11, 1974 (47 years). From this union, there were three children:  Claybert Simmons, Amarillo, TX; Tara Boyd, Rock Island, IL; and Derrick Rummels, Macomb, Michigan. 

Curtis was an avid golfer and a lover of boxing, music, and politics. He enjoyed having family social gatherings, especially on the 4th of July. He was a very kind and humble man, admired and loved by many; he will be genuinely missed. 

Curtis was called home on May 16, 2022, at 1:40 p.m. He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife, Debbie, Children: Derrick (Tina) Rummels, Claybert Simmons, Tara Boyd, and Four grandchildren. Siblings:  Janet Shivers-Scott, Casa Grande, Arizona; Joyce Allison, Las Vegas, NV; Ricky (Linda) Shivers, Rock Island, IL; Danny Shivers, Clinton, IA; Tony (Karen) Shivers, Florence, Arizona; Audrey (Kenneth) Porter, East Moline, IL, and Joel Shivers, Davenport, IA.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie B. Shivers; Mother, Geneva Shivers-Whitley; Brothers: Charles, James, Johnny, and Melvin Shivers.
