DeMelvin Lockett, formerly of Rock Island, passed away Jan. 6, 2015, in Long Beach, Calif.

Visitation and wake services for Mr. Lockett will be at Orr's Mortuary, 1326 4th Ave., Rock Island, today at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 2601 15th St., Moline, on Friday, Jan. 16, with visitation at 10 a.m. and funeral at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Rock Island National Cemetery following the funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to King Solomon Lodge No. 20 or Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Mr. Lockett was born June 13, 1924, in Shuqualak, Miss. He was employed as a master machinist at the Rock Island Arsenal for 37 years, and was the  bar manager at Crow Valley Country Club following his retirement from the Arsenal.

Mr. Lockett was a loyal and active member of King Solomon Lodge No. 20, the Tri City Consistory No. 82, and Masqat Temple No. 141, as well as Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Mr. Lockett is survived by his son, Dennis (Lisa), Long Beach, a daughter, Renee, and  three grandchildren, Daniel, Devin, and Laura Lockett. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norine; his parents; and all 11 of his siblings.
