Delores "Dee" A (Arnesen) Lang Obituary

Delores A. "Dee" Arnesen was born in Davenport, IA on April 10, 1929 to Charles M. and Amy Arnesen.  After graduating from Davenport High in 1947, Dee worked for Northwestern Bell as a Service Rep.  She loved roller skating and in 1951 she met the love of her life, Robert C. "Bob" Lang, at the Prom.  A few months later on February 8, 1952, they were married at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Davenport.

Bob and Dee were blessed with three sons: Robert C. “Rob” Lang Jr., Lucky A. Lang, and Brian S. Lang.  Dee enriched her sons' lives by being their life coach, their loving Mother, and their friend!  She helped coach and kept score for all three boys in Dad’s Club for years as well as serving as President of the PTA.  Bob and Dee taught their sons how to love, how to respect, how to serve, and how to live!  While growing up, one night a week was dedicated as Family Night where no TV was on.  Everyone talked and played games together as a family.  Playing cards together was a life-long joy!  Every year, the family vacationed together driving all over the continental United States.  In 2006, the family completed all 50 states by cruising together to Alaska!

Bob & Dee honored each other with everything they did.  They roller skated as one, they waltzed as one, they lived as one!  Their whole lives were spent making friends from all over the world.  They traveled to their favorite vacation spot in Hawaii every year, 29 times.  They had family (close friends) just about everywhere they went.  They enjoyed dancing for years with the Circle 4 Square Dancers, they were “charter members” of the NorthPark Mall Walkers, and sang together with the CASI Golden Tones.

Dee worked for years at Davenport Bank during the Christmas season as well as years with Tri State Tours as a Travel Guide.  She worked for decades at the polls assisting voters with the election process.  In the 1960's, Dee started and volunteered the whole family into the Christmas Clearance Bureau, where donated food and clothing was delivered to needy families in the Quad Cities in cooperation with the Salvation Army.  She dedicated years of service as Co-Chair of the local chapter of Parent’s Anonymous.  Dee received many awards for her years of volunteering as a tour guide at the Rock Island Arsenal Museum.  On September 18th, Dee was honored as the Volunteer of the Year by the QCCVB for serving 28 years as  a Quad Cities Ambassador greeting people at the Quad City International Airport, the Iowa Welcome Center, and riverboats to our shores.  She was active in Alcoa retirees, where Bob had worked as well as served as a Board Member of the Steepmeadow Condominium Association.  She served on many committees and in many capacities over the years at St. John’s United Methodist Church, Davenport, and First Christian Church, Davenport.

Bob and Dee spent their whole life waltzing with dear friends.  Their favorite band was Dale Thomas and favorite song was Waltz of the Angels.  As all their friends mourn the loss of the Quad City Sweethearts, Bob and Dee will now be enjoying their love and waltzing as Angels, Forever, in Heaven.  Rest in Peace Mom and Dad.

Dee is survived by her son Robert C. “Rob” Lang, Jr. (Eula), Lawrence, KS; her son Lucky A. Lang (Laura), Davenport, IA; her son Brian S. Lang (Luanne), Bettendorf, IA; eight grandchildren; 13 (14 counting the one due in the next few weeks) great grand children; numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Dee died of Cancer while under the excellent care given her at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.  In true form for Dee, she volunteered one more time by donating her body to the Deeded Body Program in Iowa City.  There will be a Celebration of Life Service for Dee in late Spring.  Dee was proceeded in death by her parents, her brother Chuck Arnesen, her sister Elaine VanFossen, and her beloved Bob in 2010.
