Diane L (Fama) Sawvell

Diane L. Sawvell (Fama), age 69, passed away in the early morning hours of Monday August 24, 2020 at UnityPoint Rock Island. At the time of her death she was a resident at St Anthony’s Continuing Care. 

Diane was born in Stoneham, MA on August 11, 1951 to Lydia and Douglas Fama. The family relocated to Bettendorf, IA in the early 1960’s and Diane graduated from Pleasant Valley High School in 1969. For over 20 years she worked as a dental lab technician. She enjoyed her work and her colleagues, whom she also considered friends. 

On March 28, 1985 Diane and Gary Sawvell welcomed their one and only child together, Carly. Although they divorced, they continued to raise Carly in an amicable and friendly way.

Diane was an extremely devoted mother, daughter, and grandmother. She radiated love, and always made sure family was her first priority. She was a bright light to all that knew and loved her. A beautiful smile and heart to match. She had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh. Whether she was watching her daughter play softball, rocking her grandchildren, crafting, or laughing with her daughter and her friends she found joy in those simple and beautiful moments. She loved easily and without condition. She will be missed tremendously. 

Diane is preceded in death by her parents Douglas and Lydia Fama. 

Diane is survived by her daughter Carly Counihan (Sawvell), her son in law Sean Counihan, grandchildren Liam and Layla Counihan, ex-husband Gary Sawvell, many nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family members and dear friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Unity Point Rock Island for their amazing compassion and kindness shown to Diane and her family during her final days. The family is immensely grateful for all that cared for her. The family would also like to express appreciation to Orr’s Mortuary and their warm navigation through this process. 

Due to the current pandemic the family will be having a celebration of life in May of 2021. Exact dates yet to be determined. Memorials May be made directly to the family or to a go fund me account set up in Diane’s name. The family would like to thank all that have donated and shown love and support during this time in so many ways.
