Frances Claudine Farley, 85, formerly of Rock Island, passed away April 10, 2015, in St. Paul, Minn., surrounded by her family. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. April 15, 2015, at St. Albans Church of God in Christ, 678 Aurora Ave., St. Paul, and services at 11 a.m. with Pastor William Land officiating. Interment will be at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Spielman Mortuary, located in St. Paul, and Orr’s Mortuary, located in Rock Island, are handling the funeral arrangements.
Mrs. Farley was born in Rock Island to Clarence Sr. and Lillie Barlow Huff on Sept. 22, 1929. She went to grade school in Rock Island and graduated from Rock Island High School in 1948. She went on to earn an associate's degree in education from Black Hawk College in Moline.
She was united in marriage to Van E. Farley Sr. on May 15, 1949, in Rock Island. Van preceded her in death Sept. 5, 2005. They were married for 56 years. To this union, they had four loving children.
Mrs. Farley was a homemaker for many years and worked as a teacher’s assistant for 15 years at Grant Elementary School. She was a lifelong resident of Rock Island before relocating to Minnesota to be with her daughters 10 years ago.
Mrs. Farley had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of Derrick’s Temple Church of God in Christ in Rock Island. Over the years, she was very involved with the church and served on many ministries. She was very proud of becoming a church mother and a missionary mother. In St. Paul, she made St. Albans Church of God in Christ her church home.
She is survived by her sister, Laurita Carter, Lavinia, Tenn.; and her children, Toni (Kermit) Adams, St. Paul, Van Farley Jr., East Moline, Tonya Matthews, Golden Valley, Minn., Troy (Vanessa Newkirk) Farley, Davenport, Carla Walker, Davenport; 15 loving grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Farley was preceded in death by her husband; eight brothers, Clarence Jr., Delbert, Colbert, Herbert, Dennis and Michael Huff; and two brothers who died in infancy; and one sister, Phyllis Vence.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the residents and staff of Arbor Pointe Independent Living and Lyngblomsten Healthcare Center for their support in her final days. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Albans Church of God in Christ, 678 Aurora Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55104.
Repast will be 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2015, at Second Baptist Church, 919 6th Ave., Rock Island.
