Funeral services for Gloria Dean Lomas, 86, of Rock Island will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Third Missionary Baptist Church, Davenport. She departed this life on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at UnityPoint Health, Rock Island. Burial will be in Chippinnock Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Church. Additional visitation will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday until service time at the Church.
Sister Gloria Dean Lomas was born on September 10, 1936, the oldest of four children to the late Ray and Genevive (Curry) Lomas in Rock Island, Illinois. She graduated from Rock Island High School and went on to work as a machine operator at Fresh Pack and Brach’s Candy until her retirement in 1991. Sister Lomas enjoyed working on Word search puzzles, and was a loyal fan to Chicago sporting teams, especially the Chicago Cubs; she was elated to see them win a World Series. Sister Lomas has been a lifelong member of Second Baptist Church in Rock Island, IL. In addition, she was a member of Adah Chapter #1o, Order of the Eastern Star, Tri-Cities Assembly #53, Order of Golden Circle Masqat Court #167, Martin Luther King Jr. Center for A.C.T.I.V.E. Club and the RSVP Senior Volunteers Program.
Those left to cherish her memories include her three sons; Stevan (Catherine) Lomas, Davenport, IA., Shaun (Fonda) Lomas, Rock Island, IL and Scott Lomas, Rock Island, IL, 12 grandchildren, 26 great children, 7 great-great grandchildren, a special daughter Lupe Reyes, and special friends Dorothy Taylor and Ida Robinson. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Richard, James and Ray Jr. and her sister Dorothy Perkins.
