James Eugene Ransom

James Eugene Ransom, 74, departed this life Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline.

He was born March 29, 1945 in Bristow, Oklahoma, the son of Carl Lester and Opal Loyce (Dorman) Ransom.  He married Ida Bragg in 1997 in Macomb.  He was preceded in death by his parent, an infant brother and two grandsons.

James came to Christ at an early age at the New Jerusalem Baptist Church.  James graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1963.  He was a medic during the Vietnam War.  He went to college at NSU in Tahlequah, OK.  After graduation he worked as an accountant for the city of Tulsa.  He had been a concierge at the DoubleTree Hotel in Tulsa, OK.  James also had a Bachelor of Arts Degree and was always ministering to others.

Survivors include his wife, Ida, and children Alona (Monroe) Alexander, Red Viora, Tabitha Ransom and James Cotton all of Tulsa, OK.  Terence (Karen) Ransom, Yukon, OK, Kimberly Ransom, Indianapolis, IN, Tonya (Mark) Vaughn, Oklahoma City, OK, Keith Cotton and James Baker, Kansas City, MO.  Lee Andrew (Verna Mae) Langford, Macon, MS, Martha (Larry) Turner, Cedar Hills, TX, Timothy (Angela) Bragg, Kenneth Bragg, Rose (Tyrone) Babers, Rock Island, IL; brothers, Kenneth Dorman (Pepper), East Moline and Billie Joe Ransom (Julia), Arizona, and James Woodard, Arcadian, OK.   He also leaves behind 41 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday with service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at First Paradise Baptist Church, 1520 9th Avenue, Rock Island.  Interment will be at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal.
