Obituary

Jimmie Lee "Sonny" Bates, 79 of Davenport, Iowa, departed this life on Friday May 7th, 2021 at Genesis East Hospital. 

He was born August 31, 1941 in Fulton, Tenn., the 3rd child of James and Buelah (Macklin) Bates. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers Fred, Charlie, Frank Bates; 2 sisters Melvina "Sis" Prather-Hodge and Erma Jean Smith; daughter Carolyn Pearson and grandson Landis Bates; granddaughter Demiya Bates.

Mr. Bates retired from Caterpillar as a Machinist in 1998.

He is survived by his children, Jimmie Lee Bates, Jr, Victor (Miangela) Bates, Latonya (Antonio) Bates, Amelia (Joe) Bates; Step children Willie Tyson (Kathy), Kenneth Tyson, Teddy Tyson, Jolinda Tyson, and Julie Brassell; brothers Alfred (Sue) Bates, Charles (Dorothy) Bates, and Leon (Mary) Bates; sisters-in law Shirley Bates; ex-wife Christine Bates, and longtime companion Mary Tyson; special grandson Detarius Haynes, host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Orr's Mortuary at 1326 4th Avenue, Rock Island, Il 61201. Repass will be located at Masonic lodge in Davenport, Iowa.
