Julious James Johnson Obituary

Julious James Johnson, 73, of Rock Island, departed this life on Monday October 17, at Unity Point Health Trinity Bettendorf.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m.Monday  at Second Baptist Church, Rock Island, with Pastor Joseph D. Williamson lll officiating. Burial will be at Chippiannock Cemetery and Crematory, Rock Island. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m.Sunday  at Second Baptist Church, Rock Island.

He was born October 10, 1943 in Clinton, MS, the son of Willie and Lillian (Crockett) Johnson. He married Janet Lockhart in Rock Island, in 1972.

He graduated from Lanier High School, and Jackson State University with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree. He was employed by the Rock Milan School District for 32 years as an Industrial Technology Teacher. He touched the lives of many students at Central and Washington Junior High. He retired from Rock Island High School.

He was a member of Second Baptist Church, where was an active member. He was a member of the Male Chorus, and The Ultimate Sounds Choir. He worked with the Youth Ministry, the Culinary Committee and he served for many years as a Trustee. He was honored by the Scholarship Committee in February and was the Trustee Helper’s This is Your Life honoree in May.

He was a Past Master of King Solomon Lodge #20, F&AM, Past Patron of Adah Chapter #10 Order of the Eastern Star, Past Commander and Chief of Tri-Cities Consistory #82, AASR, NJ, PHA, Past Recorder of Masqat Temple #141, A.A.O.E.N.M.S., Delta Beta Beta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Rock Island County Branch of the NAACP, Past Chairman of the Martin Luther King Advisory Board, Habitat for Humanity of the QC Board, The National Education Association, the ILLOWA Alumni Chapter of Jackson State University, and the King Center ACTIVE Club.

In his spare time he enjoyed working on cars, traveling, fixing things around the house, spending time with his family and playing with his dogs, J.J., Rawley, Mia, Baby Girl, and Jo Jo.

Cherishing wonderful memories of life are his wife of 44 years, Janet, sons, Justin (Lori), Rock Island, Joshua (Tiffany), Matteson, IL, grand children Jordan, Jaylen, and Joshua Jr. Brothers Thomas, New York, Milton, Jackson, and a sister Johnnie Chambers, Chicago, nieces, Tammy and Chastity Lockhart, Rockford, IL, Goddaughters, Caitlyn Clay, Davenport, Iowa and Janea Jacobs, Rock Island, Life long friend, Jesse Adams, and the Dickerson, Jacobs, Mikel, and Momon Families.

His parents preceded him in death, an aunt Maddie Crockett, who raised him, his Mother in Law, who he was the caregiver for over 5 years, Eunice Lockhart.

Memorials may be made to the Scholarship Committee of Second Baptist Church were a scholarship will be established in his name and his late father in law, M.L. Lockhart.
