Lacey Jones, 83, of Davenport departed this life on Tuesday at his home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at People’s Missionary Baptist Church, Rock Island with Pastor Willie E. Jones officiating.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the Church.
A wake service will be held 5:00-7:00 pm on Sunday at Orr’s Mortuary, 1326 4th Avenue, Rock Island.
Burial will be Tuesday at the Rock Island National Cemetery. The processional to the Rock Island Arsenal will leave Orr’s Mortuary at 9:30 am.
Orr’s Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
James “Lacey” Jones was born on January 10, 1934 in Cornwell, AL the son of Roosevelt and Florene L. (Green) Jones.
He married Dorothy J. Gathright on April 9, 1963 in Rock Island, IL.
He served in the US Army where he earned a National Defense Service Medal, Army Occupation Medal (Germany) and the Good Conduct Medal.
His hobbies included car collecting, gardening and repairing anything worth fixing and coin collecting.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy; daughters, Cherry Johnson, Birmingham, AL, Monica Andrey, Mobile, AL, Rochelle Hickman, Rock Island, Jean Hall, Davenport and Lauri McNeal, Rock Island; a son, James A Jones, Buckeye, AZ; a brother, Remus Jones, Davenport; 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Roosevelt and Tommy Jones.
