Ona Mae Wright, 90, of Davenport, IA, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024. Born on February 15, 1934, in Water Valley, MS, Ona lived a life marked by deep faith, unwavering love for her family, and a strength that inspired all who knew her. She was the beloved wife of the late John Ellis Wright and a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Ona leaves behind three loving daughters: Essie Wright of Virginia, Patricia Blackmore of Riverdale, GA, and Karen Wright-Edwards of Riverdale, GA. She is also survived by two siblings: Bernice Willingham of Davenport, IA and Robert Turner of Water Valley, MS. Additionally, she is cherished by11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

Raised in Water Valley, MS, Ona spent her early years working alongside her father in the cotton fields. In 1957, she married John Ellis Wright and moved to Iowa, where she built a family and began a long career at Sears, working in the mechanical department. Her remarkable work ethic, determination, and devotion to her family were evident in everything she did.

Ona’s life was a living testament to the values of the Proverbs 31 woman. She was meek, humble, and full of love, always putting others before herself. Known for her non-judgmental nature and unwavering kindness, she was a source of wisdom and strength to all who knew her. She had a deep love for puzzles, cooking, and, above all, spending time with her family. Her infectious laughter and joyful spirit brought light into the hearts of all who were near. She truly cherished every moment with her large, loving family.

Ona was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Ellis Wright, daughter, Cynthia Kay Smith, and her siblings: John Turner, Lucille Joseph, JC Turner, Joe Turner, Ora Kerr, RD Turner, Clayton Turner Jr., Claude Turner, Louise Hawkins, and Lawrence Turner.

Her presence in this world will be profoundly missed, but her legacy of love, strength, and faith will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
