Roscoe S. Blackwell Sr., 90, of Davenport, went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 29, 2014. A home-going service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014. Visitation will be 10 a.m. at Progressive Baptist Church in Davenport. Pastor Stanley Moore will be officiating. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Roscoe was born June 20, 1924, in Metropolis, Ill., and honorably served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He married Pearl Blackwell on June 4, 1966, in Davenport. Pearl preceded him in death.

Roscoe was a man of God who held true to his calling with integrity, love, and passion for God’s work and God’s people. Those left to celebrate his life include Valerie (Bruce) McQueen, Kevin (Kim) Blackwell, Ingrid (Walter) Moss, Sarah Blackwell, Roscoe (Nikky) Blackwell Jr., Elisa (Greg) Persley, Rodney (Annetta) Blackwell, Adrienne (Barry) Lakes, James Blackwell, Shirley Davis, Alfredia (Reggie) York, Taylor Blackwell, Dontree Blackwell; and a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
