Funeral services for Sam Armstrong, will be 12:00 p.m. Monday at Central Church of Christ, 4900 NW Blvd., Davenport.  Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until service time Monday at the Church.  Burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery.

Orr’s Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Sam Armstrong passed away on June 24, 2017.  He was born January 4, 1939 to the late, Ivory Armstrong and Nannie Bell Prior (Young) of Abbeville, MS.  Sam was the oldest of his eight siblings.

Sam married Sidney Pearl Ragland of Oxford, MS on December 27, 1960.  Sam and Sidney’s union was allotted for 57 years.   They moved to Davenport in 1965 and starting his work history at the Wonder Bread Bakery.  His 30-year work career as a spray painter, retiring from J.I. Case Company.  He loved to hunt, fish and watch Westerns, listen to the blues and had an obsession for working hard.

He had a stroke in March of 2017 which he never recovered.

Left to honor his memory are his wife, Sidney Armstrong, children; Michael (Rachel) Brooks, Tucson, AZ, Shirley (Freddy) Bolden, Manvel, TX, Janis Brook, Corpus Christi, TX, Sammy (Mary) Armstrong, Des Moines, IA, Ronnie Armstrong Corpus Christi, TX, Brenda (Ellis) Atwater, Davenport and twenty-three grandchildren; brothers, James (Ruby) Young Abbeville, MS, Cleotha (Annie) Young, Davenport; sisters, Annie (George) Smith, Abbeville, MS; Bernice Lewis and, Jerelene Pettis, Abbeville, MS, Mary (Gary) Campbell, Oxford, MS and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivory and Nannie Bell Young; two sons, Larry and Mark Armstrong, two grandchildren, Brooke L. Armstrong and Ellis G. Atwater, III; two brothers, Willie and Robert Youngs,
